Follow that Fire Engine

18-Nov-2010 The day before Melbourne Cup Day, the Fire Engine landed on Australian shores in Perth. Faced with lengthy Quarantine delays, the expedition almost hit an impenetrable wall, however with the help of Bluefreight’s transport and quarantine yard partners in Fremantle, the Port of Perth in Western Australia, we managed to get the engine cleaned and passed in a record 1.5 days instead of the 3 to 4 weeks we suddenly discovered to be the current backlog. A launch on the steps of West Australia’s Parliament House by the Hon Michael Mischin (minister’s blog, and escorted onto the start of their Aussie sojourn by a fleet of Fire Engines, they have set off on their Aussie journey. Have a look at their current expedition status on www.followthatfireengine.com; there are some hysterical comments by these intrepid Poms as they discover wonderful Aussie items like 38 degree Celsius (100 Fahrenheit) heat in the sun while washing their engine for quarantine, or driving in 45 degree heat in a truck without air-conditioning, finding spiders the size of small rabbits, the absolute isolitaion of the outback, underground living in the caves of the Opal miners of Cooper Pedy, the generosity of Adelaidians....and now they arrive in my home tome town this Thursday.....stay tuned. But more to the point, they have raised 75,000 British Pounds so far for Cancer Charities. If you are on facebook, please look for them there and find their social activities where you can meet the crew.
